Nerdy Chic

It's Monday, which means it's time for My Sister's Closet!

I love everything about today's look because even though my sister is basically a super model, this can work for us mere mortals too.

This built-in shirt under sweater trend is happening right now and has been floating around for a few years.

The benefit? No bulk or figuring out how to layer things. It's all done for you!

The downside? Not always that flattering, even on these moody models:

HOWEVER, Emma's look takes a slightly different spin on the trend with a cute nerdy chic dress that is a lot more flattering.

If you aren't into dresses, why not?

You don't have to choose matching pants, which is one less step, less hassle and less work.

Plus, even though Emma is bare-legged, a cute pair of tights or some good old leggings will keep this cozy and appropriate when chasing your rugrats.

Check it out:

Dress: ONLY,  Boots: Lulus.com   Glasses: Dolce & Gabbana   Rose-Gold Watch: Ricki's

I am so excited about this hairstyle because it is IN and it is SO easy. This is a perfect "day fourteen two" hairstyle. It's half up in a messy bun. Easy. On point.

Also, if you, like me, have been blearily and sleeplessly stumbling through your days (Mombie, amiright??), updating your glasses to a fun new style (rather than trying to cram contact lenses into your bloodshot peepers) can add a fun twist on any outfit.

Emma's Dolce & Gabbana frames are perfect because they are on trend, but not so out there that she won't be able to wear them next week.

If you're looking for cheaper specs, here's an article that lists the top five online sites to find great glasses. Costco also updates their glasses selection pretty frequently and is a lot more affordable than most optometrists.
Even though Emma doesn't need it, isn't this a flattering style? It highlights the smallest part of the ribs, then leaves a little jiggle wiggle room in the looser part of the skirt.

If you haven't checked out lulus.com, then you are missing out, especially for economical footwear and accessories.
If you are thinking of a dress, but aren't sold on the style of Emma's or are looking for something breastfeeding friendly, consider the shirt dress:

Mine's from Banana Republic clearance. It's comfy, flatteringly loose in the right spots, and provides easy access for a hungry little minion.

If you want to get all crazy and hit two trends at once, why not go for a plaid shirt dress?

I love this look and Shaunacey from Confessions of a Frumpy Mommy has an awesome post on how she wore one here. Hers is from Dynamite and I am tempted to go have a look, but I'm also currently drooling over this one.

So if you want to mask the mombie, throw on some specs, bun up the hair, and show a little leg...
unless of course, you are participating in No Shave November in which case, braid that leg hair into a lovely pattern or add some leggings as you see fit. Whatever, mama! You do you.

  1. LOVE the PeterPan collar on your sis' dress. Great post!

    1. Thanks Deena! I also love the collar and the texture in the sweater part of the dress. Too cute!

  2. your sister is super adorable in that dress and you're rocking the shirt dress. Seriously, nursing is a such an infringement on my endeavor to get dressed daily... bah.
Thanks for the shout-out, you're awesome!
